Airship “Sabicu”

Airship “Sabicu” – an engraving I did whilst away from my paints and computers.

The linework in the actual piece is near dizzying, and like those intricate patterns on celtic war gear, I’ve been told it does manage to swallow the soul of the viewer (or at least mezmerize them for a little while).

Airship Sabicu

Detail of the engraving – No web graphic could possibly do jusice to all the near-microscopic linework in this piece, but here is an extreme closeup anyway:

On a sidenote, I’ve reduced a lot of things at mykeamend.com and ettadiem.etsy.com for black Friday and the following Saturday.

H.M.S. Gadreel Over Icy Seas

HMS Gadreel

Gadreel Detail

HMS Gadreel Detail 2

This is a limited time, limited edition printing of the airship H.M.S. Gadreel. It is one of a great many details within “Behold the Machine”, a large painting done by Myke Amend for Vernian Process’ upcoming album.

The original is painted on a 48 x 24 inch birch panel in acrylics.

These are not mere photographic prints, nor are they at-home inkjet printings.

This print is finely reproduced on 11×14-inch heavyweght 200-year archival metallic paper, with epson ultrachrome k3 archival inks, and coated in a UV protective luster finish.

To finish it off, each of this limited edition of only 75 is signed and hand-embellished by Myke Amend in silver archival ink.

This print will be available for a very limited time, and will only be available through the Myke Amend store, The Miskatonic Archive Store, and Etta Diem.

Most Wonderful Time of the Year?

Yes, it is… but not for any of those reasons portrayed in stop-motion claymation.

No, this is the time when artists and musicians tend to release a lot of great new stuff.

Magenta (the real one), Bella Morte, Voltaire, Ego Likeness, and ZOMBINA AND THE SKELETONES have all released new albums this month.

I have been hooked on Voltaire’s “To the Bottom of the Sea” for weeks. I think he probably wouldn’t appreciate being compared to other artists, so let me just say that it reminds me a lot of what would happen if Squirrel Nut Zippers and Weird Al had a demon-posessed love child who sounded remarkably a lot like Voltaire. It is a bit more serious and thought-provoking in parts than expected, broken up by huge doses of his usual hilarity. This CD is definitely my pick of the season, unless I find something better.

Ego Likeness has released 300 and only 300 limited edition CDs of their newest cut, regular issue editions following. I, for one, prefer the idea of having a hand-signed one of 300 CD, and anxiously await mine. With it being Ego Likeness, I know I will love it – and I think you will too.

Magenta has just this week released their long-long-long-awaited CD as a digital download. The physical CD will be available later this year, but if you don’t mind digital and want to be among the first to hear it – you can hear it free (and.or buy it) here.

Zombina and The Skeletones – well, there has never been a Zombina album I have not been ecstatic and unbelievably thrilled to hear. Their music is more fun than waxing the stairs at the old folks’ home, with equal amounts of guilt, and yet only half the risk. Their latest album, much like all their other albums, is a ‘must have’ for this gift-getting season.

I have not yet heard enough of the Bella Morte CD, “Beautiful Death”, for me to give my opinion on it. I can say that I have been a fan for a very long time. Right now, they are offering all 6 of their CDs for $70– which comes up to $11.67 a piece, or two CDs free – however you choose to look at it. Whether you love or only like the new CD, it is still one hell of a deal, and well-worth the price if only for the other CDs included.

More music stuff soon.

And then there was one…

There is now only one 36×24 Metallic print of “the Rescue” left.

However, I am letting the two 36×24 metallic artists prints go (#s I and II)- each coupled with a 16×20 metallic of “Conception”, and a 16×20 Metallic of “Heptameron” – all of which signed and hand-embellished. These two sets are available until November 22nd. If they are still available at the time you are reading this, you can purchase them here.

Trinity

There are of course still a handful of the 32×22 inch giclees on canvas left as well, which will probably last into the holiday shopping season. Those will remain at the current sale price until December 5th.

Ia Ia!

In nature, it is quite rare to encounter octopi with extra tentacles (or “arms,” for the purists), but a pair of aquariums in Japan’s Mie prefecture have some extraordinary specimens on hand.

The permanent display at the Shima Marineland Aquarium in the town of Shima includes a 96-tentacled Common Octopus (Octopus vulgaris) that weighed 3.3 kilograms (about 7 lbs) and measured 90 centimeters (3 ft) long when it was captured in nearby Matoya Bay in December 1998. Before dying 5 months later, the creature laid eggs, making it the first known extra-tentacled octopus to do so in captivity. [Read The Rest At Pink Tentacle]
